I'm making lots of lists lately and figured I'd keep going. Since I often get asked what my favorite books are and I can never answer, here are a few books I think are worth reading. Siddartha , by Herman Hesse. The book that changed my way of viewing the world. The Stand , by Stephen King. One of the best books ever. Archetypal good vs. evil, great writing, and interesting characters. Lonesome Dove , by Larry McMurty. Never have I experienced such real and rounded characters on the written page. The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove , by Christopher Moore. Laugh out loud funny and strange. A Prayer for Owen Meany , by John Irving. Funny but thought provoking. I think better, but very different than Cider House Rules, World According to Garp or Hotel New Hampshire . To Kill a Mockingbird , by Harper Lee. Classic coming of age. soup

I really like soup.  I like to make it, I like to smell it, and I like to eat it.  My husband says I make the best soup in the world, which makes me happy even though it's hyperbole.  I make "clean out the refrigerator soup" pretty regularly, and it usually turns out okay.   Soup is one of those things that makes me feel happy, and warm, and like I'm taking care of my family. Just saying the word soup makes me smile. One of the books I remember from childhood is about  chicken soup with rice  . And suddenly it's April!

 I wrote my last blogpost in April - fresh into retirement, about to head south, and convinced I'd be a regular contributor to my own blog.  Yeah - not so much.  But here it is, April. What's new?  I absolutely love being in Georgia, my house in Georgia, and spending winter in Georgia. I absolutely did not miss Fairbanks cold winter and snow. Not at all. I was able to walk the dog without adding 15 lbs of clothing, and boots, and hats and gloves and girding the loins to handle the frigid air that freezes one's face.  I like being retired. The Fairbanks School District appears to be in the middle of a massive shit storm and I'm glad I'm not there. I miss my friends and the really good people that I knew in the district. Good people do not a good system make, when the system is determined to be dysfunctional. I totally do not mind spending 24-7 with my husband.  We drive each other just crazy enough, but really do make a good team.  I'm currently in Rock...
