Boy:  I told my gym teacher that I was learning to do the snatch.
Dad:  Cool.  What did he say?
Boy:  He didn't know what the snatch is.
Dad:  So did you explain it to him?
Boy:  Yes I did.  I told him it was one of the styles of olympic lifting.
Dad: Did he know what olympic lifting is?
Boy:  He knows what the Olympics are.

For some reason, this was really funny.  My boys are such dorks.

Well, I'm about to start a new adventure.  After being a classroom teacher since 1995, I'm about to become a year-round educational employee.  Yesterday I accepted a job as the secondary curriculum coordinator for the school district.  It's kind of still sinking in, but I think I'm excited about the change. For the past year I've been working on a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction, so when a position came open that required this degree and would let me use what I learn, I felt like I had to apply.  I was sort of surprised to get it, but am really excited as well as flattered that my current boss thinks I can do the job. This means that I will be facilitating curriculum revisions, working with school counselors, planning professional development, organizing district-wide events such as Poetry Out Loud, and completing "other duties as assigned"  I still get to work with great people in a great department. a numbers game

Here's my advice for today: There are two possessions one should never count - shoes or books. You see my friend, counting these items creates a impossible situation. No matter what number you come up with, it doesn't seem like enough to the owner. And no matter what number you come up with, friends and family will express astonishment and think you're excessive. The reality is that one can never own too many shoes, or too many books. Shoes turn the mundane work day into something fun and exciting. Having the right shoes for an occasion not only helps to smooth social interactions, but it marks a person as professional and caring about his/her appearance. Plus, shoes are just cool. As for books, if one has a book, one is never alone. Books allow the reader to travel the world and examine life's conflicts and passions without having to enter into dangerous situations. Today

Today was "one of those" days. Frozen drain pipes, trips to dentists, cars not starting, puppy pooping in place puppies shouldn't poop, cold water in the shower - you name it. The upside is that my husband had to spend part of the day at home dealing with the "stuff." So got to snuggle him and take a nap while he worked. Today I'm wondering what got into me to start this massive organizing project and whether I can bring myself to finish it.
